Our Story
The Sarvarian story is one of family, creativity, education, and the belief that what we create can have meaning beyond our own lifetime.
For generations, members of the Sarvarian family have found their way into classrooms, studios, theaters, film sets, publishing, design, literature, and public life. Their story has unfolded across different cities and countries, shaped by migration, changing societies, personal struggles, and the communities they became part of along the way.
Education became one of the earliest and most enduring threads in that story. Beginning with the pioneering educational work of Margaret Sarvarian in Tehran, the family became closely connected with generations of students, teachers, artists, and families. The schools that grew from this work were not simply places of instruction. They became environments where art, music, literature, theater, cinema, and creative expression were considered an important part of a child's development.
Creativity followed another path through the family. Across generations, Sarvarians became involved in painting, graphic design, theater, cinema, writing, architecture, and other creative fields. Some left behind recognized bodies of work; others contributed quietly through teaching, collaboration, encouragement, or the opportunities they created for those around them.
And just as importantly, the story does not end with the archive.
Today, new creative projects, educational initiatives, collaborations, and cultural programs continue that tradition in different forms. The circumstances have changed, but the underlying idea remains remarkably familiar: to create, to educate, to support others, and to leave something meaningful for those who come next.
The Sarvarian story is therefore not only a story about where we came from.
It is a story still being written.

But this website is not intended simply to celebrate accomplishments.
It is also about the lives behind them—the friendships, marriages, migrations, disappointments, funny stories, family gatherings, unexpected encounters, photographs, letters, and memories that rarely find their way into conventional histories.
Many of those stories are still being discovered.
Sarvarian.com was created to bring these fragments together: to preserve what remains, research what has been forgotten, share what we continue to learn, and make this history accessible to future generations.
